I proved to myself this week, that it’s true, you are what you eat.
As a result of my Celiac disease, I have osteo-arthritis in several of my joints. One of the worst places is the joint at the base of my right thumb, where my thumb meets my wrist.
Over the weekend, Easter Sunday night to be specific, I had a terrible flare up. To the point that, by Monday morning, I couldn’t hold anything in my right hand.
I usually eat very clean. Lean protein, lots of vegetables, very low to no carbs, but not on Easter. I had baked ham, scalloped potatoes, a piece of gluten-free cake with homemade whipped cream on top, and I think I began to pay for that by Sunday evening. 
So, why am I telling you this? Just to let you know that what you eat really does affect your body. Monday morning, after my shower, I made myself a smoothie. Not one of the best tasting ones I’ve ever made, but it was full of what I knew my body needed. One cup of fresh, raw spinach, for the phyto-nutrients it contains, two stalks of celery, for its diuretic, cleansing effect, one whole avocado for its healthy fat, high potassium content, and its cholesterol and trigliceride lowering ability, two heaping teaspoons of turmeric powder, with a quarter teaspoon of black pepper, one teaspoon of ginger root powder, and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, all of which are great all natural anti-inflammatories, an apple with the peel, and a heaping teaspoon of black strap molasses to add a bit of sweetness, and almond milk for the liquid.
I blended that all up in my Nutri Bullet blender and had that for breakfast and another one for lunch. By lunchtime, I was at least able to move my thumb without excruciating pain and by the time I got home from work, I was able to actually pick things up in my right hand.
Just for good measure, I had another one of those smoothies for breakfast and one for lunch on Tuesday also.
