  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 inch round or and 8 inch square pan
  2. Sift the flour, sugar, soda, and salt together until well mixed.
  3. Mix the applesauce, vanilla, and oil in a large bowl; add the dry ingredients to the wet and stir until all of the flour is just moistened.
  4. Spread the batter the greased cake pan.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.
