If you were a Girl Scout or a Boy Scout, then you know what GORP is, or more like what it stands for…Good Old Raisins and Peanuts.

Well today, in honor of the first day of Spring, I have an updated recipe. This one has almonds in place of peanuts, and I use mixed nuts that don’t contain peanuts, but you can use whatever you like.

Updated GORP Trail Mix

  •  2 cups raw almonds
  • 1 cup other mixed nuts
  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds

Put the almonds and other nuts on a baking sheet (no oil needed) and roast in a 300 degree oven for about 7 or 8 minutes. Be careful not to leave them in too long. Remove and allow to cool.

When cool, put the nuts in a big bowl and add the raisins, and seeds, and toss together until mixed well.

Put mixture in glass jars with tight lids or in other tightly sealed food storage containers or ziplock bags. Store in cool place or refrigerate.

Enjoy when you are going hiking or just as a healthy anytime snack.
